Painting Black: Day 7 – Manila here we come!

Day 7 – Manila here we come!

I rarely surprise myself but day 7 is different. I’ve only been away for seven days, and now I genuinely miss home, even more excited for the trip back. Maybe I just miss Leo or the “fresh” air, or the unobtrusive, even grubby charm of Manila. Our flight was at 7:45am, and since we haven’t had the time to sleep from last night’s wandering, we checked out from The Hive at 4am and went straight to Changi’s Budget Terminal, which I must say is way too classy to be called budget (point of comparison being Philippine airports). The cab driver charged us another 50% of the total cabbie fare since we flagged it between 12midnight-6am. Surprisingly, it did not bother me this time as I fish for bills in my wallet. I discovered I still have $120++ dollars! It means I survived the whole week with only P10,000 (S$290) allowance and still saved almost P4000 of it. I am so proud of myself (ugh, good luck with the credit card bill, though).

We collected our tourist refund from our iPod purchases. If only I was mindful enough to go through my receipts, I could have collected another $10 from other purchases. Dang. Anyways, I got another nice treat before going home. Hans Café at the check-in hall serves kaya toast!!! For $3.50 I had kaya toasts, two poached eggs and a real coffee that spelled power breakfast. Kaya is a sweet local jam made from eggs, sugar and coconut milk. It is served with butter between slices of toasted bread, along with soft poached eggs and dark (or light) soy sauce. Yummy!

With our stomachs full, we made our way to the check-in queue line, got inside the terminal and waited for the boarding time. In one of my emotera episodes, I realized it’s a good decision to have made this trip. I enjoyed every minute of it. Singapore is clean, modern, and highly-organized. Plus, the people are cute as they are fashion forward. Love looking at them. I won’t mind coming back in the future, hopefully with my Mom, or Leo, or Eva, or whoever wants to be my travel mate. In the meantime, Eva's eyes grow hot for Thailand, whoah!
